Cunha: Trump wants to close a large number of U.S. bases for economic reasons

Donald Trump wants to shut down a significant number of U.S. bases abroad due to economic reasons. These bases have consumed enormous amounts of money, and he needs those funds for other purposes. Regarding Camp Bondsteel, it is an important base that allows the U.S. military to rotate troops from north to south Europe and station them in a strategically significant area, Portuguese General Raul Cunha, a former high-ranking KFOR official and military advisor to former UNMIK chief Joachim Rücker, told Kosovo Online.
"What might happen is strong pressure on Mr. Kurti to engage in peace policies and stop provocations. Mr. Kurti represents the extreme left, which is certainly not something Mr. Trump approves of," Cunha added.
He added that Trump "is neither stupid nor a fool," as he is often portrayed.
"He has built an economic and financial empire. For him, business is important business, and the issue of military bases is connected to this. The U.S. has more than 700 bases around the world, and they all consume a lot of money, which he needs for domestic policies," Cunha said.
