Dasic: The biggest harm to Serbian community is when Albin Kurti is in power
According to the latest public opinion polls in Kosovo, the mood among citizens is such that after the parliamentary elections, no party, not even the currently ruling Self-Determination Movement, could form a government alone. Regarding which coalition would be the least "bad" for Serbs in Kosovo, Marko Dasic, an associate professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, says that the biggest harm to the Serbian community "is delivered during Albin Kurti's mandate."
"I have in mind a statement by Gabriel Escobar, who said that if Kurti does not deliver the results agreed upon in the Brussels dialogue, they will try to find partners who will do so. Perhaps the elections are an opportunity for some new options to be politically profiled and for citizens to perhaps give their trust to someone else," Dasic says.
He recalls that AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj stated that Kosovo did not have its own foreign policy but rather followed the policy of the United States, while former envoy of US President Donald Trump for the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue, Richard Grenell, enthusiastically and consistently claims that he was closest to reaching an agreement with Aleksandar Vucic during his mediation.
"You don't have any foreign official who could claim something similar about Kurti. So, all other options are likely more cooperative from the perspective of Western partners when it comes to the potential results of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue," Dasic says.
The regular term for parliamentary elections in Kosovo is 2025, but there are assessments that they could take place during this year.
