Demaku: After meeting with Macron, Kurti began implementing the agreement on the CSM
Political analyst Armend Demaku believes that the process of implementing the Community of Serb Municipalities has already begun and told Kosovo Online that the turning point was the meeting between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
“As for the implementation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, I believe that Mr Albin Kurti is already carrying it out after the meeting he had in Paris with Emmanuel Macron. The European Union clearly stated that it would meet with Kurti only once the implementation of the Community of Serb Municipalities begins, which indicates that this process is already underway,” Demaku said.
He points out that the political rhetoric of both the Self-Determination Movement and the Serb List has a strong populist character, but also elements of what he describes as mutual coordination.
“By creating rivalry between themselves, these two parties contribute to the realization of the CSM,” he assessed.
According to him, the model being implemented goes beyond the framework of the agreements from 2013 and 2015.
“This is not only about the Community, but about expanded autonomy within the Republic of Kosovo,” Demaku emphasized, recalling that Kurti had previously consistently denied such a possibility.
He adds that the Serb List has continuously tried to build a political conflict with Self-Determination and Kurti himself, but that despite this, their activities are to a significant extent “aligned”.
“Both parties suppress democracy within their communities – both Serbian and Albanian. Their approach is strongly populist and does not benefit any citizen of Kosovo, regardless of ethnic background,” Demaku concluded.
