German Embassy: For Germany, priority is to see progress in establishing the CSM

For Germany, it is a priority to see steps toward the establishment of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities as an international obligation that Kosovo has undertaken since 2013, spokesperson of the German Embassy in Pristina Catalina Heine said, as reported by Gazeta Express.

She said that the Community must be established in accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo and that, therefore, the Constitutional Court must be involved in the assessment before implementation.

“For Germany, it is a priority to see progress in the development and implementation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities, which has been an international obligation since 2013. We hope to see the necessary discussions, followed by progress in establishing the Community. And of course, any implementation of the Community must be fully in line with the Constitution of Kosovo, which is why the Constitutional Court must be involved in the assessment before implementation,” Heine said.

She emphasized that the issue of the CSM is often discussed whenever meetings are held with the Kosovo government in which Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe is considered, a process that Berlin officially supports.

“Since the path toward Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, which Germany strongly supports, is a regular topic of discussion between the Embassy and the Government of Kosovo, the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities is also frequently discussed,” the spokesperson of the German Embassy said.
