Djuric and Stevanovic: Relations between Belgrade and Ljubljana are good, stable, and friendly
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric met today with Slovenian Parliament Speaker Zoran Stevanovic to discuss bilateral relations, the situation in the region, and the most important geopolitical issues. Both sides noted that relations between Belgrade and Ljubljana are good, stable, and friendly, and that there are opportunities for further deepening and intensifying cooperation.
According to a statement issued by Serbia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Djuric emphasized that cooperation in the economic, political, and cultural spheres, as well as cooperation in the European and regional context, is of exceptional importance for Serbia.
He thanked Stevanovic for choosing Serbia for his first official visit, stressing that Belgrade values Slovenia's continuous support for the European integration process and expects that support to be further strengthened in the coming period.
As stated in the announcement, Djuric assessed that Slovenia is among the best experts on the Western Balkans region within the EU and that, through its knowledge and influence, it can be an important partner for Serbia in Brussels.
He added that Serbia is ready to fulfill all necessary requirements in the reform process, emphasizing that the free movement of people, goods, capital, and services in the region, with appropriate support from the European Union, would contribute to reducing existing tensions and improving regional cooperation.
Djuric stated that Serbia is committed to strengthening cooperation and stability in the region, resolving outstanding issues from the past, and overcoming differences while safeguarding its national interests. He assessed that Serbia represents a pillar of stability in Southeast Europe and emphasized that the European Union will not be complete without the Western Balkan countries as members.
The head of Serbian diplomacy also expressed hope that Slovenia will soon make a formal decision on participating in the specialized Expo 2027 exhibition in Belgrade, for which nearly 140 countries have registered so far, the statement concluded.
