Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, took part today in New York in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Western Balkans with the foreign ministers of the “Friends of the Western Balkans” group, where he emphasized that full membership in the European Union remains Serbia’s strategic commitment and the highest priority of its foreign policy. He underlined that this is a long-term vision shaping the course of Serbia’s state and society.

Minister Djuric stated that Serbia has set itself a clear and ambitious goal to complete all necessary reforms and fully align its legislation with that of the European Union by the end of 2026. This, he stressed, would enable Serbian citizens to enjoy a higher standard of living, stability, prosperity, and an improved quality of life.

Djuric highlighted Serbia’s deep appreciation for the European Union’s commitment to preserving the European perspective of the Western Balkans, adding that the European path guarantees cooperation in addressing common challenges while fostering prosperity and stability across the region.

He pointed out that initiatives such as the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans and the Growth Plan already demonstrate the value of partnership and solidarity, noting that Serbia is actively engaged in regional projects that enhance connectivity, energy efficiency, and digital development throughout the Western Balkans.

Speaking about the accession process, Djuric underlined the importance of clear and measurable criteria, as well as recognition of the progress achieved.

The Serbian Foreign Minister concluded by reiterating that Serbia is prepared to accelerate reforms, stressing that the timely opening of new negotiating clusters—particularly Cluster 3—would provide additional motivation and momentum on Serbia’s path toward full membership.
