Djuric: KFOR and EULEX must do everything they can to prevent any escalation

Former director of Kosovo’s Regional Police Directorate North Nenad Djuric made a statement for the Serbian Pink TV channel saying he thought that KFOR and EULEX were obliged to do everything in their power to prevent any escalation, which nobody even wanted in the first place. He pointed out that, either as a professional or as a man or a parent, he didn’t want to presume that anything like that was even possible.

As a reminder, Djuric recently refused to issue warnings to Serbs in the north of Kosovo who had not transferred to using the RKS (Republic of Kosovo) license plates, for which he was suspended by the Kosovo Police, subsequently leading him to leave the Kosovo Police.

As he stated on Monday, it wasn't a secret that Kosovo Police special units were stationed in their bases up north near the administrative crossings.

"We kept asking both the General Police Directorate in Pristina and the international community not to make moves that could lead us to big problems", Djuric said.

"Even back in 2011, when they requested that the KM (Kosovo and Metohija) license plates be removed from cars, I sent them a written refusal of the directive, after which they suspended me and expelled me from work. For the following two years, I was out of the Kosovo Police service. Then in Brussels in 2013, thanks to my country Serbia which recommended me, I was appointed director of the Regional Police Directorate in the north of Kosovo. And, once again, we came to the very same moment, and then I said that enough was enough. It’s impossible to be cornered in such a manner and not do anything about it; one has to try to remove the burden from one’s shoulder and the yoke from one’s neck," Djuric said.
