Djuric: Kosovo and Metohija the most important national issue and the greatest challenge for Serbia
Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric stated today, addressing participants of the 15th class of the High Security and Defence Studies, that Kosovo is the most significant state and national issue, as well as the greatest challenge facing Serbia. He pointed to the continuous obstructions by the government in Pristina, which further complicate the position of Serbs in Kosovo.
In his address, Djuric also recalled the latest provocations by the authorities in Pristina directed at the Faculty of Technical Sciences of the University of Pristina with temporary headquarters in Kosovska Mitrovica, which, as he noted, raise concerns and call into question the status and functioning of one of the most important Serbian higher education institutions in Kosovo.
Speaking about key foreign policy priorities, Djuric emphasized that preserving peace and stability in the region, European integration, and the development of partnership relations with all countries of the world constitute the pillars of Serbia’s diplomatic activity.
He reminded the audience that Serbia conducts an independent, balanced, and responsible foreign policy and builds and maintains relations with numerous partners on the international political scene.
Reflecting on Serbia’s geopolitical position, the minister underlined that the country remains consistently committed to a policy of peace, dialogue, and strengthening regional stability, with particular emphasis on deepening cooperation in the Western Balkans.
As he stressed, a stable, interconnected, and economically strong region represents a prerequisite for overall progress and a better quality of life for all citizens, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia.
The head of Serbian diplomacy also highlighted the importance of preserving cultural identity, as well as the efforts Serbia is making to advance its demographic policy, stressing that these priorities form an integral part of the country’s long-term development vision and the foundation of future social progress.
Djuric noted that the High Security and Defence Studies have, over time, become recognized not only within Serbia’s security and defence system but also in a broader regional and international context, and that they equip participants to responsibly manage national security and defence systems in the future, safeguarding the vital interests and values of their states in complex geopolitical circumstances.
Minister Djuric wished the participants much success in their further training and professional engagement, expressing confidence that they will responsibly apply the knowledge they have acquired in the service of their states and citizens.
