Djuric: Kurti has been building up militarized forces for 20 months, orchestrating lies about Kosovo Serbs and Serbia
Marko Djuric, the Ambassador of Serbia to the United States, assessed that there were only two 'serious military buildups' in Kosovo, and neither of them was a new military buildup of Serbian forces. First, as he states, there is the buildup of "Kurti's highly militarized and mono-ethnic special forces," and as the second, he points to the accumulation of lies and prejudices toward Kosovo Serbs and Serbia orchestrated by Albin Kurti.
On the social media platform "X," Djuric mentioned that on the land unlawfully seized by the government of Albin Kurti, eight new bases had been built for these militarized and mono-ethnic forces.
"There are only two "serious military buildups" in Kosovo, but neither of them is a new military buildup of Serbian troops. First new buildup is the buildup of Kurti's special highly militarized and monoethnic forces, that has been going on for 20 months. 8 new bases for these forces have been built on land that was illegally requisited by Kurti's government, despite calls from the US, EU, and even Kosovo's courts. Over this time these forces have engaged in 61 illegal raids and shot 7 Kosovo Serbs, injured many more. As a result of this buildup, 11% of the Serbs in the north have already been forced to move to central Serbia. This was condemned by the US and the EU, but the international community fell short of preventing it. Despite its legal and moral mandate," Djuric wrote.
The second "buildup", equally sinister, as he says, is the buildup of lies, bias, and prejudice against Kosovo Serbs and Serbia, orchestrated by Kurti, but joined by those who just waited for the first opportunity to confirm old stereotypes, failing to look deeper and see that roles in Kosovo have reversed since the 90's.
"As for the alleged Serbian buildup, the only thing that exists is a drawdown of forces that have been there for years - from 7500 to a historic minimum of 4000. Because we are the responsible side, one that wants peace and is trying to avoid further bloodshed. Perpetrators of the tragedy in Banjska on the Serb side are already being held to account," Djuric stated, asking who would be held accountable for the continuous terror of Kurti's regime.
"Is there going to be a call for a withdrawal of his forces that are deployed in the north of Kosovo, in blatant disregard of article 9 of the Brussels agreement? Or maybe rules and principles do not apply to him? It is the 11th hour to end Kurti's reign of terror in the North of Kosovo," Djuric emphasized.
Djuric also noted that lost lives could not be brought back and that sadness, anger, and a mix of other emotions would remain due to everything that had happened last week.
"Some consequences are permanent. Tonight, evidence has surfaced that at least one of our compatriots was cold-bloodedly executed by Kurti's units, which, according to the Brussels Agreement, should not have been in northern Kosovo. Over the past seven days, my colleagues and I have been working day and night at the Serbian mission in Washington to spread the truth about the terror being conducted against our compatriots in local political circles. My thoughts are with our suffering and much-stricken people in Kosovo and Metohija at all times. May God give them the strength to continue living in their homes and us the wisdom not to divide but to unite in this misfortune. There is no limit to what we can achieve if we persevere in the fight for truth and justice," Djuric concluded.
