Djuric: Kurti's regime is trying to provoke conflicts at all costs
To be honest, I feel a lot of anger. The news about the arrest of doctor Todorovic, who went with his three children to a family celebration in Srbica and was stopped in Jarinje under the pretext of a lack of documentation for his own children, shows that Kurti's regime is trying to provoke conflicts at all costs, Serbian Ambassador to the US Marko Djuric said, as a guest on RTS this morning.
Ambassador Djuric stated that it was no longer just an issue for Belgrade but also for the international community.
"We know what we have to do and how to protect the people, and we will reach an agreement and announce a common platform in the coming days, as President Vucic announced. That will be the unique position of the Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija's north, south, and central parts, as well as the state of Serbia, which will fully support them. This is also a question for the international community, so I would take the opportunity to urge them not to pretend there is no problem and not to sweep things under the rug. Remember the words of Richard Holbrooke, who said that there was no such thing as a small and insignificant thing in the Balkans. We also have to understand that these are very difficult times in international circumstances and that it is important to clearly show that we are the victims here, not those who threaten someone," Djuric noted.
Djuric also said that the nervousness of Kurti and the regime in Pristina arose from the fact that the position of part of the international community was being corrected.
"Kurti no longer has a monopoly on the truth about Kosovo and the good relations with the US and the EU. What we continue to do is hold talks with the highest US representatives. I spoke with Chollet on Friday and held a number of other conversations in the following days, and no one in Washington approves of the course on which the CSM formation is denied and the unilateral moves that are taken. It is also necessary to go a step further in order to stop Kurti's irrational rampage. There is no functional democracy in Pristina; radical elements are in power. Kurti and the Self-Determination Movement attacked the American embassy a few years ago, and their minister of the interior led the overturning of a truck with Coca-Cola just because it was produced in our country," Djuric said.
When asked whether the local elections in northern Kosovo scheduled for April 23 would still be postponed, Djuric said that based on the information he had, there was no chance that the elections would be postponed.
"I also don't think there is any prospect of the Kurti regime doing anything about the commitments they have made, which include the CSM formation. Neither Brussels nor any other agreement is a buffet where you can pick and choose what you like. Kurti has to face the international community; otherwise, those whose answer is missing will bear responsibility for what is happening. The only real guarantee for the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija is Serbia. In December, when the pogrom was attempted again, it was met with a decisive response. On the other hand, there are no guarantees that Pristina will change its course, at least until the taps are turned on, and pressure is put on the Pristina authorities," Djuric explained.
The Ambassador of Serbia to the US pointed out that Pristina had been building illegal bases since last year.
"Svecla, who presents himself as the Minister of Police, brags that he has built seven illegal bases instead of being ashamed of having violated the Brussels Agreement, which stipulates that the composition of the police in the north corresponds to the ethnic structure and that 97 percent of the police come from the Serbian community. The Serbs have rational demands: to stop the terror against them, withdraw the bases, and form the CSM. Kurti would now also like to be the mayor of North Mitrovica. Those announced elections have nothing to do with democracy," Djuric stated.
