Dobrilovic: Serbia must not be blackmailed by Kosovo on its path to the EU, fighting in the UN is an example of protecting the country's interests

Serbia must no longer be blackmailed by the issue of Kosovo on its path to the European Union, which must be resolved through dialogue, as provided by UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and without imposed solutions, emphasizes Konstantin Dobrilovic, candidate of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) for the European Parliament, adding that Serbia's recent fight in the UN and the constant struggle for the rights of Serbs in Kosovo are examples to all on how to advocate for citizens.

Dobrilovic, a candidate of the Austrian party of Serbian origin, tells Kosovo Online that in the European Parliament he intends exactly that - to fight for citizens' rights and to bring the EU's focus back to fundamental priorities, and Serbia's fight to preserve international law is his inspiration for how to do it best.

"I intend to fight in the EP against the centralization of Brussels, for freedom and citizens' rights as Serbia bravely fought in the UN against the Srebrenica Resolution and fights for the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. Serbia has shown what even a small country can do by standing alone against injustice and pressure from the great powers. Only such unconditional struggle yields results, which is important in the fight for EU reform, which has long been going in the wrong direction," said Dobrilovic.

He points out that in Europe it has become dangerous to think liberally and in the interest of its citizens, as best proven by the recent assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

"Whoever does not want to comply with the dictates of the European Commission and its President Ursula von der Leyen is immediately demonized, characterized as an autocrat, which could rather be said for the centralized EU government. We see this best in the case of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, but also Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic who are subjected to a huge campaign, pressures, blackmail, threats... this is not democracy and therefore I will fight to bring democracy back home, in the EU," emphasized Dobrilovic.

Regarding the EU enlargement process, and especially the possibility of Ukraine and Moldova joining, he notes that he only sees Serbia as a potential future member, which, he is convinced, by fostering friendships with countries from all over the world, can only contribute to the European Union, both in expanding economic activities to many now closed markets for it and in its liberal struggle to strengthen the Union's role in the international arena.

"But, there are prerequisites. Serbia, of course, must meet all criteria and hold a referendum to see whether citizens even want to join the Union, as citizens are the ones who should decide their fate, as was the case in Austria. Of course, I hope that they would then vote on joining a new, better EU, whose creation will be contributed to by patriotic forces that will be an indispensable factor after these elections. Serbia on this path should no longer be blackmailed by the question of Kosovo, as it is a matter that must be resolved in dialogue, as provided by UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and without imposing solutions," Dobrilovic highlighted.

His stance is clear, he says - recognizing Kosovo was a mistake, as is the advocacy for bringing Pristina closer to the European Union, because Serbs in Kosovo are subjected to daily terror and the abolition of all rights.

He also states that the EU must be reformed, as it has strayed from the goals set by its founders, and what is worse, he notices - it has also strayed from the citizens.

"We must return some competencies to the states, which they could better implement, and the EU should deal with bigger issues than the shape of bananas... Citizens have been facing various crises for years, and the EU, instead of finding answers, deepens them with its measures and empties the pockets of the population. The EU should make life easier for citizens, not harder," Dobrilovic added.

That's why he called on all Austrians of Serbian origin to come out to the European elections and support him, because that will provide someone in the European Parliament who will represent and defend Serbian interests.
