The European Union is closely monitoring the latest actions against Serbian institutions in northern Kosovo, carried out ahead of the elections, a spokesperson for the European Commission said today, stressing that the authorities in Pristina should not close Serbian institutions and that Pristina must refrain from such actions, Politika reports.
In a written response to Tanjug, the EC spokesperson stated that the "status of structures supported by Serbia should be resolved through EU-mediated dialogue".
"The Kosovo authorities should not close any of the health and education institutions, or other structures supported by Serbia, in accordance with the agreements from the dialogue. Kosovo must refrain from such actions and be consistent with its recent commitment to the EU-mediated dialogue", the response stated.
It was also emphasized that the normalization of relations is an essential term on the European path of both sides and that both sides risk losing important opportunities in the absence of progress.
