The German Embassy in Pristina: The ban on the import of Serbian goods jeopardizes Kosovo's participation in the Berlin Process
Germany's position remains unchanged – the ban on the import of Serbian goods jeopardizes Kosovo's participation in the Berlin Process, the German Embassy in Pristina stated for RTV Dukagjini.
"If Kosovo does not lift the ban on the import of goods from Serbia, the Berlin Process could continue without 'the newest state in the Balkans,'" the German Embassy noted.
They added that the Berlin Process is the only comprehensive regional format for "all six Western Balkan countries."
"Its goal is to enhance regional cooperation, as well as cooperation with the EU in various policy areas to support the countries in the region in achieving EU standards and their integration into the EU. Of course, the invitation policy of the Berlin Process will not change, and we hope that Kosovo will continue to participate. However, if Kosovo continues to block further progress on the regional common market, we will find a way to continue without Kosovo. This includes unblocking decision-making within CEFTA. Germany has negotiated a package deal to remove UNMIK from CEFTA decision-making so that Kosovo could represent itself. At the same time, Kosovo is being asked to lift the ban on the import of goods from Serbia. If a CEFTA solution becomes impossible for Kosovo, it will have to proceed without it. It will be Kosovo's decision in which parts of regional cooperation it will continue to participate," stated the German Embassy in Kosovo.
