German Embassy on Raskovic: Competent authorities must investigate allegations, those responsible must be held accountable

"We are deeply concerned by the serious allegations concerning the assault on Mr. Nenad Raskovic," the German Embassy told Kosovo Online.

The Embassy further stated in its written response to our portal that "any form of deliberate violence and mistreatment by law enforcement authorities is unacceptable."

"The competent authorities must thoroughly and independently investigate these allegations, and those responsible must be held accountable," the German Embassy stated.

Nenad Raskovic from the village of Dren, in the municipality of Zubin Potok, was admitted yesterday to the Emergency Center of the Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade.

Raskovic had been hospitalized the previous day at the Clinical Hospital Center in Kosovska Mitrovica after, as he told Kosovo Online, three police officers first beat him at his home in Dren and later handcuffed him, took him into the woods and tied him to a beech tree, where they beat him with a hose and put a cloth over his mouth.

He said that they had demanded that he hand over a rifle, but that he did not have one.

Dr. Zlatan Elek, Director of the Clinical Hospital Center in Kosovska Mitrovica, stated that Raskovic had sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured rib.

The Kosovo Police Inspectorate (KPI) has launched an investigation into Raskovic's allegations.
