Gudzic: Political elites in Pristina built their careers on a narrative of exclusively Serbian guilt for the war

Following the arrest of Tefik Mustafa at the Merdare crossing by Serbian authorities, under the accusation of war crimes against non-Albanian populations during the Kosovo war in 1999, and the complaints of Kosovo's Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed to the international community demanding Serbia's accountability, political analyst Aleksandar Gudzic reminds that the political elites in Pristina have built their political careers on a narrative of exclusively Serbian guilt for the wars of the nineties, and that Serbia can expect pressures as long as there is a democratic option in power in the US.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo has called on the international community to take concrete steps to immediately release Tefik Mustafa, accusing Serbia of "arbitrariness, destructive actions, and violation of international human rights conventions."

Political analyst Aleksandar Gudzic reminds that Serbs in Kosovo are almost daily arrested by Kosovo authorities.

"Kosovo's political elites in Pristina, whether in power, opposition, or those who have previously been in power, have built their political careers on a narrative of exclusively Serbian guilt for the wars of the nineties, and to make matters worse, the current political elites in America, who are now in power in the US, have also built their careers on the wars of the nineties and the conflicts of the former Yugoslav peoples, and they have built their political careers on this narrative of exclusively Serbian guilt, so it coincides," Gudzic stated.

He emphasizes that the same accusations against Serbs and Serbia will continue in the future.

"Are there lists for the arrest of Serbs in Kosovo, and do we occasionally hear that Serbs have been arrested at administrative crossings—yes. What is the ultimate goal of such lists of accusations and arrests, then a message to Serbs not to come. Does the justice system and Albanians use this system of accusations, this narrative of exclusively Serbian guilt to settle personal misunderstandings and problems—yes. We have the example of a man from Metohija who is accused simply because he offended an Albanian and solely on the word 'this one is guilty' he was arrested and the process against him is still ongoing," Gudzic declared, noting that Serbia can expect pressures as long as a democratic option is in power in the US.
