Hamiti: Kurti's inability to understand the allies' messages is disturbing
The official of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Muhamet Hamiti, pointed out that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti was unable to understand the messages and demands of Kosovo's allies regarding dialogue and relations with Serbia, Gazeta Express reports.
Hamiti stated that Kurti, in an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, showed that he realized the concern and seriousness of the situation late.
"The inability of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to understand our messages and the messages of our allies in time, in order to lead a wise policy, in coordination with our allies and friends, at a time when there are intense international efforts to conclude a dialogue for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is disturbing. And the dialogue basically result in mutual recognition," Hamiti said.
In an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung, Kurti said that he agreed to compromise on the license plates after the US ambassador in Pristina, Jeffrey Hovenier, warned him that the situation in the north of Kosovo could seriously and irreversibly deteriorate.
"The license plate crisis could have been avoided if Albin Kurti had understood the gravity of the situation in time, in coordination with the allies, the US and the Europeans, who requested the postponement of the implementation of the decision on license plates in order to focus on the dialogue for the normalization of relations, that is, to focus on solving big issues, which solve small ones", stressed Hamiti.
According to him, the recent events should serve as a lesson for Kurti.
"From Kurti's interview with FAZ, it appears that he realized late the seriousness of the situation and the possibility of its "irreversible deterioration", because he did not have as much information as the American ambassador in Kosovo. We hope that Kurti learned something from this situation and that he will not do the same after having harmed the country, shaking the credibility of our relations with allies, with gestures of unreasonable obstinacy," Hamiti said.
Hamiti added that the "alpha and omega" of Kosovo's policy should be close coordination with allies for security reasons, because according to him, KFOR has a key role.
"The completion of the dialogue with Serbia, the recognition by the countries that have not yet recognized Kosovo, opens the way for Euro-Atlantic integrations. Kosovo's alliances are not a matter of political contingencies at this moment. They are of vital importance for the present and future of Kosovo, which aims to become part of the international system," Hamiti emphasized.
