Haxhiu: The murder of the pregnant woman showed that the judiciary is not doing its job and is guided by prejudices

Minister of Justice Albulena Haxhiu accused the judicial system in Kosovo and said that judicial institutions boycotted the government and that judges and prosecutors worked with a patriarchal way of thinking.

Speaking about the gruesome case of the murder of a 35-year-old pregnant woman, Haxhiu said that they immediately had taken the necessary steps, but that judicial institutions were irresponsible, Reporteri reports.

"Immediately after this case had happened, we gathered as an interdepartmental group and based on the reports we received from other institutions, although the judicial institutions, unfortunately, do not try to deal with the common problems we have. They show a lack of moral and professional conscience by boycotting the state. Even in the meeting called by the president, they did not participate at all", Haxhiu emphasized.

According to her, this was the biggest challenge she faced as head of the judiciary.

"Now, as the Minister of Justice, the biggest challenge, which I have to say openly and loudly, is that the judicial system is not interested in performing its duties," she said.

The minister expressed concern about the partisan mentality that, as she said, prevailed among judges, prosecutors, and police in Kosovo, who blamed the victim in cases of violence.

"We as institutions must work for the emancipation of citizens or our society. But it becomes more serious when this patriarchal mentality manifests itself among prosecutors and judges, as well as among the police and other levels," Haxhiu said.
