Hill: Dialogue does not foresee reciprocity, the rights of Albanians in Serbia are resolved within Serbia
US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill reiterated that the Brussels dialogue did not provide for reciprocity regarding the rights of Serbs in Kosovo and the rights of Albanians in Serbia, Reporteri reported.
Hill, who is visiting the municipalities of southern Serbia, told RTV Aldi from Presevo that the issue of the rights of Albanians in Serbia must be resolved within the country.
"The Brussels dialogue has been going on since 2013. I think that the EU has taken on a very difficult task and the Brussels dialogue does not foresee reciprocity. The reciprocity you are talking about, which concerns Albanian citizens within Serbia, must be resolved within Serbia," Hill said.
He stated that the Constitution of Serbia stated that Albanians were equal with other nations.
"Many people in the diplomatic circle still pay attention to these problems. These are issues that concern us all and there has to be a solution," Hill said.
He also pointed out that the entire region would benefit if the Ohrid Agreement was successfully implemented.
"The dialogue that culminated in the Ohrid Agreement is about Kosovo and the solution to the problem between Kosovo and Serbia. If successful, it could help the entire region. To help people create new circumstances in which borders will not divide people, but bring them together... I think dialogue will be supported by a wide range of people, in order to sit down and find peaceful solutions to problems," Hill concluded.
