State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nevena Jovanovic, met today with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Andreas von Beckerath, drawing his attention to the measures and announced regulatory solutions introduced by Pristina and warning that they further complicate the everyday lives of Serbs and negatively affect the exercise of their fundamental rights, including the right to work and freedom of movement.

Jovanovic informed her interlocutor about the current situation in Kosovo, pointing to the pronounced security and institutional challenges faced by the Serbian population.

She emphasized the importance of increased engagement by the European Union aimed at preserving peace and stability and creating conditions for the continuation of dialogue, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia stated.

During an open and constructive discussion, key issues related to Serbia’s European integration process, the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue, as well as broader regional and international circumstances relevant to European security and stability were considered.

The interlocutors agreed that in the coming period it is necessary to further intensify reform activities in order to accelerate the accession process, jointly assessing that the integration of the region into the European Union is of essential importance for the stability and prosperity of the entire area.

Jovanovic underlined that EU membership represents a strategic commitment and a priority of Serbia’s foreign policy, noting that to this end a new organizational negotiating structure has been adopted and an Operational Team for the European Union accession process has been established, tasked with providing strategic guidance, political coordination, and the timely resolution of issues relevant to progress in the negotiations, the statement added.
