KFOR removed barbed wire in Zvecan

Around noon today, KFOR members removed the barbed wire on the main road and the approach to the municipal building in Zvecan, which was installed seven days ago after the incursion of Kosovo special forces and after the Serbs started the peaceful protests.

The gathered citizens commented on KFOR's move as a sign that the situation was moving towards de-escalation and tension reduction.

The metal fence is still present on the streets leading to the municipal building, and access to the building is not possible. The barbed wire remains on the side approaches to the municipal building.

Not far from the remaining fence after the removal of barbed wire, citizens hung a banner reading "Zvecan is eternal" on the lamp posts.

Several hundred citizens gathered in front of the municipal building in Zvecan today as well, demanding that the Kosovo special forces leave and that the illegitimately elected mayors not be imposed on them. These mayors obtained their mandates in the municipalities of the north in elections held on April 23, with a voter turnout of around 3.5 percent, which the Serbs boycotted. They also demand the immediate release of their fellow citizens Rados Petrovic and Dusan Obrenovic, who were detained by Kosovo Police during the protests on Monday, May 26.
