Klan Kosova: KSF received five "Bayraktar" drones
The formations of the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) are equipped with around five Turkish-made "Bayraktar" drones, Klan Kosova reported, citing a source from international security institutions.
Intelligent unmanned attack drones, which are controlled from a land base, arrived in Kosovo from Turkey, which produces them, almost seven months after the conclusion of the supply contract, which was signed with the manufacturer by the Minister of Defense Armend Mehaj.
The interest in equipping these combat aircraft dates back to the beginning of 2022, especially after the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 last year.
Just two days later, the company was visited by the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, as she herself wrote - appreciating the inspiring display of achievements in the field of technological progress and innovations related to the defense and security sector, indirectly lobbying for their purchase.
Unmanned aerial vehicles "Bayraktar" TB2 belong to weapons that have a long endurance at medium altitude (MALE), with a flight record of up to 27 hours and three minutes, and in addition to armed attacks, their main functions are intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
The equipping of the KSF with this system comes just a few days before the start of the largest international exercise, "Defender Europe 23". Kosovo will be the host country for the second time, and in the exercise led by the US, it is participating with more than 1,100 soldiers.
