Members of the Kosovo Police removed an alarm siren yesterday afternoon from a building on King Peter Street in North Mitrovica.

According to information circulating on social media, Kosovo Online learns that the action took place in the afternoon. Several police officers entered a building on King Peter Street and took out the alarm siren, which has recently been primarily used to alert against interventions by Kosovo Police special units.

In June 2019, the Kosovo Police even initiated an investigation into who ordered the use of the alarm siren. The then Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Ekrem Mustafa, stated that the police had launched an investigative procedure, collecting information about the criminal act.

"The activation of the siren is alarming. I demand to find out who activated the siren. I am obliged because the siren is not a means to alert about police actions on the territory of the state. Citizens were in panic when the siren was activated. This is an act that the state must punish. The investigation is ongoing, the police are not sleeping. We have information", Mustafa said.

The sirens used in North Mitrovica were also a topic in the local assembly of South Mitrovica, where councilors unanimously decided to ban the use of alarm sirens in North Mitrovica.
