Krieziu: The CEC has become politicized and incompetent; the decision on the Serb List is scandalous and unjustified

The Director of the Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI), Ismet Krieziu, assessed that the CEC’s decision not to publish the final results for the Serb List is scandalous and unjustified, and that it constitutes a serious violation of the right to political representation.

Krieziu noted that this decision has triggered sharp reactions from the international community.

“That action also risks causing serious delays in the process of certifying the elections—unacceptable delays that push the country toward the expiration of constitutional deadlines and directly jeopardize the constitution of institutions, placing Kosovo on the brink of a new institutional crisis,” he warned.

Krieziu emphasized that the CEC has become a politicized and incompetent institution which, through both its actions and inaction, directly harms electoral democracy and Kosovo’s national interests.

“The irresponsibility of its members and a pronounced lack of professionalism have seriously undermined the integrity of the electoral process, destroying the reputation Kosovo had built as a positive example in the development of electoral democracy, including assessments by international partners,” Krieziu wrote on Facebook.

He added that in any functional democracy, those responsible for institutional degradation would be immediately removed from office and would bear political and moral responsibility.

“Their continued presence in the CEC represents a serious violation of democratic values and a flagrant breach of the principle of the rule of law. Moreover, CEC members coming from opposition parties must publicly clarify whom they represent there, when every one of their votes results in submission to and enforcement of the will of the party in power,” Krieziu stressed.

Under these circumstances, he added, opposition parties and their representatives should openly join the Self-Determination Movement and formalize the reality of an opposition that is, in fact, being dismantled.
