Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti met today with the Commander of NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command Naples, Admiral George Wikoff, and the new KFOR Commander, Roberto Vergori, to discuss the security situation in Kosovo and the region, as well as cooperation between Kosovo institutions and NATO.

Wikoff and Vergori visited Kurti at the Kosovo Government building following the KFOR change-of-command ceremony held at the mission’s headquarters in Pristina.

“The institutions have been formed; it is time to move forward,” Wikoff said.

In a post on Facebook, Kurti said that this was his third meeting with Admiral Wikoff this year, while it was his first meeting with Vergori.

“We discussed the security situation in the country and the region, current developments, as well as cooperation and coordination between the institutions of the Republic and NATO. We are grateful to NATO, which we aspire to join, for its contribution to lasting peace and long-term stability in Kosovo and throughout the Western Balkans. We are also grateful for its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all citizens and all communities,” Kurti wrote.

Major General Roberto Vergori today assumed command of KFOR from Turkish General Ozkan Ulutas.
