Lama: If the Israeli-Iranian conflict escalates, it could affect our region politically and in terms of security
If the Israeli-Iranian conflict continues and escalates, it could have implications for the entire world, including our region, both politically and in terms of security, according to Alma Lama, a political analyst from Pristina.
Although U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a ceasefire had been reached and that the war between Israel and Iran was over, both sides continued to fire rockets afterward.
“If the conflict escalates, it could lead to the collapse of the regime in Iran, and then the problem becomes what follows — a civil war, as some analysts predict. Terrorist groups and security threats could be ‘exported’ to our region because we’re not far away. There could also be economic implications, as Iran has announced it might halt international oil and gas trade through key routes, which could significantly impact the economies of various countries,” Lama told Kosovo Online.
She also believes that the Middle East crisis could influence the war between Russia and Ukraine, as global conflicts tend to have far-reaching effects.
Additionally, she notes that the European Union’s political focus might shift more toward this kind of escalating conflict, while the United States’ role in our region is already “in retreat.”
“For small countries like Kosovo or others in the region, the behavior of the major powers is extremely important, as is their engagement in our region. So, any form of withdrawal, for example, can have certain consequences. In such a case, some regional powers may try to step in — but if those powers are not democratic, it could negatively affect democracy in our countries,” Lama concluded.
