Mijacic: There are no political actors in Kosovo who are trying to find solutions beneficial to both the Serbian and Albanian communities
All issues related to the normalization of relations, not only between Belgrade and Pristina but also between the Serbian and Albanian communities, have been raised to the level of escalation, to the extent that in Kosovo there are indeed no political actors who calm the situation, and build bridges between the two communities, trying to find solutions that benefit both, Dragisa Mijacic, Coordinator of the National Convention for Chapter 35, says for Kosovo Online.
As he adds, generally in the Balkans, nationalist rhetoric unfortunately gains more votes than any peace policy, and parties that promote cooperation usually do not fare well in elections.
Therefore, he believes, it should not be surprising that opposition groups or any political formations are more guided by 'hardline' positions and nationalistic rhetoric than they work on bringing communities together, uniting peoples, and building bridges of cooperation.
"This is evident among political entities in Kosovo as well. Despite occasionally criticizing the Government of Albin Kurti on certain issues, it is more criticism in terms of methodology than criticism in terms of the essence of what the Government of Kosovo is doing in Serbian communities, which is truly wrong," Mijacic says.
