Aleksandar Mitic, a research associate at the Institute of International Politics and Economics, assesses that Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti is pursuing a policy that is quite aggressive in pushing a pan-Albanian agenda and that he will continue with such a policy because he is encouraged by the support he receives due to the West's lack of response.

Mitic points out that very similar ideas, only in a slightly more moderate form, are also proclaimed by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.

"It is obvious that Albin Kurti is trying to lead a pan-Albanian policy that is quite aggressive in pushing this pan-Albanian agenda. He also has his own political ideology and is certainly someone who represents certain ideas and political principles that are acceptable not only to those in Kosovo and Metohija but also in Albania and North Macedonia. However, his agenda is something that is a common theme of the Greater Albania idea. He advocates it in a somewhat more radical way than Edi Rama, who approaches it with a completely different, more polished approach at first glance, but with the same intentions and goals," Mitic said for Kosovo Online.

He believes that Kurti is encouraged by the West because, at this moment, he does not see anyone who could stand in his way.

"Kurti is encouraged by the fact that he received support for escalating the discrimination against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija in various ways over the past two years, including what we recently saw with the process in the Council of Europe and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. He believes that there is no one who can challenge him and say 'enough with spreading such ideas'," Mitic points out.

He assesses that the messages from certain representatives of the international community for Kurti to stop destabilizing the region mean nothing to him.

"It is obvious that he will continue with his agenda and that the fact that some Western officials have sent him a message through diplomatic channels to not destabilize the region and to concentrate only on Kosovo and Metohija does not really affect him, so I expect the continuation of his policy," Mitic concludes.
