Mojsilovic meets Ulutaş: KFOR key to peace and protection of Serbs in Kosovo

The Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilovic, met today in Belgrade with the KFOR Commander, Major General Özkan Ulutaş, and on that occasion assessed that the situation in Kosovo is sensitive and fragile, stressing that it is important for international forces to take the necessary measures to preserve peace and stability and to protect Serbs as the most vulnerable part of the population.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the security situation in Kosovo and the activities undertaken by the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR to monitor developments on the ground and prevent an escalation of the crisis, the Ministry of Defence of Serbia stated in a press release.

“In light of the announced beginning of the implementation of the controversial laws on foreigners and vehicles adopted by the provisional institutions in Pristina, it was assessed that the security situation in Kosovo is sensitive and fragile, and that it is therefore extremely important for the International Security Forces, as the only legitimate armed formation in Kosovo, to increase vigilance and undertake the necessary measures to preserve peace and stability and protect Serbs as the most vulnerable segment of the population,” the statement said.

It added that General Mojsilovic pointed to unilateral moves by Pristina, describing them as provocative activities that negatively affect security.

“General Mojsilovic pointed out that the unilateral actions of the provisional self-government institutions in Pristina and the efforts to transform the so-called Kosovo Security Force into an army are contrary to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and all signed agreements, assessing that these are provocative activities that negatively affect security in the Province and the region,” the Ministry of Defence stated.
