Mojsilovic to Ulutaş: International security forces must protect Serbs and Serbian religious and cultural heritage

Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Milan Mojsilovic met today in Belgrade with KFOR Commander Major General Özkan Ulutaş, stressing that Serbs in Kosovo do not feel safe and calling on the International Security Forces to fulfill their obligations by, first and foremost, protecting the Serb population and Serbian religious, cultural, and historical heritage in the Province.

"Pointing out that Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija do not feel safe, the Chief of the General Staff requested that the International Security Forces, as the only legitimate armed formation in the Province, fulfill their obligations in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Military-Technical Agreement and, above all, protect the Serb population and Serbian religious, cultural, and historical heritage in the Province," the Serbian Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

The statement further noted that the meeting focused on the current security situation in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as on the activities undertaken by the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR to monitor developments on the ground and prevent the emergence and escalation of crises.

The interlocutors assessed that the situation in Kosovo remains sensitive and fragile, and therefore that the International Security Forces must remain prepared, in line with their mandate, to protect the population and preserve a safe and secure environment.

In that context, the importance of maintaining continuous and direct contacts between the relevant structures of the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR at all levels was emphasized.
