Muhaxhiri: The CSM only in the north can be one of the options, an acceptable one through negotiations

Political analyst Artan Muhaxhiri assesses that the idea of DPK MP Xhavit Haliti regarding a Community of Serb Municipalities that would exist only in the north can be an option to be discussed within the dialogue, but says that the most important thing is for discussions on the CSM to begin and for options to be put forward.

Through negotiations, and with the involvement of Brussels and Washington, he says he is confident that an acceptable option will be found, which would mean that the dialogue would restart.

Muhaxhiri points out that the issue of the Community has become the biggest obstacle and the greatest burden on Kosovo’s international relations, because the EU and the United States constantly ask Kosovo politicians to address this issue.

“However, there is great fear among Kosovo politicians to deal with this topic because they are afraid of losing votes and are afraid of the voters’ reaction. But this would have to be done. It is inevitable to resolve this issue and to provide appropriate options and appropriate modalities in order to find the best possible way to address it and to open the paths toward European integration, because everything is connected to it,” Muhaxhiri told Kosovo Online.

With the dialogue blocked, in his assessment, everyone loses. Kosovo, Serbia, and the EU all lose, that is, all parties that have an interest in the dialogue lose, and time is also lost.

Albin Kurti, he says, does not want to discuss the Community as a concrete topic, but wants to address it in a much broader context. In order to do that, he notes, there must be negotiations and talks in Brussels, because everything is at a standstill.

“We do not know which option would be appropriate and acceptable for Mr. Kurti, but I am sure that Kosovo will offer its options, Serbia its own, and then halfway, together with the EU and the United States, we can find a solution that will be acceptable to all sides. Kosovo and Serbia will start from maximalist positions, and then I am sure that somewhere in the middle an option can be found, and I do not think there is only one. There are hundreds of available options. I am one hundred percent convinced that only through dialogue, with international support, can an acceptable option be found and that this blockade can be resolved,” Muhaxhiri emphasizes.
