Muhaxhiri: Without elections in the municipalities in the north, there is no progress for Kosovo

Analyst Artan Muhaxhiri commenting on the petitions for the removal of mayors in the northern municipalities in Kosovo said that without elections in the north, there was no progress, RTK reports.

Muhaxhiri, regarding the petitions from the Serbs, said that elections in the four municipalities were a necessity.

"The more delayed the elections in the north are, the worse it will be for the Government of Kosovo, but also for the entire path of negotiations, and dialogue because without overcoming this problem, we cannot get to important topics", Muhaxhiri said.

Muhaxhiri explained that the resignation of mayors of the northern municipalities had been considered as an option, but the Government preferred to do it through administrative instructions, where 20% of citizens could initiate the dismissal of the mayors of municipalities.

"Without new elections reflecting the political will of the citizens, there will be no progress", Muhaxhiri stated.

He further added that this process was progressing slowly and criticized the Government for constantly obstructing this process because, according to him, it could be done much faster.

However, he thinks it's good that things have started moving, adding that the Central Election Commission (CEC) must play its role as soon as possible to bring this issue to the agenda.

Regarding the CSM draft, Muhaxhiri said that it was the obligation of the state, but efforts must be made to minimize the damage as much as possible, in line with the Constitution.
