Novakovic: New elections in Germany and France will not affect EU policy and the Western Balkans region
Igor Novakovic, senior associate at the Center for International and Security Affairs (ISAC Fund), stated that the political crisis and elections in Germany and France are not expected to bring significant surprises for the Western Balkans region, adding that the greater uncertainty lies in the practical implementation and consequences of future US foreign policy.
"The main question here is whether, in either of these two countries, the far-right will gain a larger number of votes and thereby get an opportunity to form, or enter, the government or influence government policy. The European administration currently reflects and is supported by the largest political families within the European Parliament and will likely form the backbone of the new governments in France and Germany. Most likely. So, I don't think there will be any changes in this regard," Novakovic told Kosovo Online.
According to this researcher, the key question for dynamics within the EU, as well as the rest of the world, is what the policy of the new US administration will be.
"The key question for global dynamics and political movements is what the policy within the US will be, or rather, what the policy of the new administration in the United States will be. There is a lot of speculation, but we still don’t know what its practical implementation and consequences will be. This will also influence the policies of major European states toward the Western Balkans," Novakovic concluded.
