Odalovic: There is no responsibility for crimes against Serbs in Croatia, nor for crimes against Serbs in Kosovo
President of the Government Commission for Missing Persons of Serbia, Veljko Odalovic, says that there is no responsibility for crimes against Serbs in Croatia, nor for crimes against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, as reported by Pink.
Odalovic states that among the people who were killed during "Operation Storm," there were very few who had any involvement in any conflict, and that it was a zone under the protection of the UN.
He drew a parallel between that and the events in Kosovo in 1999.
"What happened during the UN mission and mandate in these areas? A pogrom and expulsion of more than 220 or 250 thousand people occurred. It's difficult to determine the exact number, as we don't know where they are buried; many are listed as missing, and over 1,850 people were killed. The same is happening – Serbs are being kidnapped, killed, and their homes are being burned before their eyes, yet there is no responsibility, neither for crimes against Serbs in Croatia nor for crimes against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, and when someone dares to mention their crimes, there is an orchestrated defense, and those who allowed it to happen appear alongside them," Odalovic says.
The Higher Court in Belgrade confirmed the indictment for war crimes on Petrovacka Street and in the village of Svodno, where 13 civilians were killed, including four children. The War Crimes Prosecutor's Office filed the indictment against Croatian pilots.
This is the first indictment in Serbia for Operation Storm.
Odalovic emphasized that there was universal jurisdiction for such acts and that no one could question that.
"Their attempt to silence discussion on this matter and promote only their narrative is a different perspective. I can understand them in part, but not justify them. I understand them because when all of this is exposed, including the crimes they committed, the myth they are trying to create not only about Operation Storm but also about the establishment of the state and the investigations, collapses," Odalovic said.
He expects that this will not be the only indictment.
Odalovic stated that the Commission participated in the exhumation of 1,050 victims who were listed as missing from Operation Storm, and out of that number, 700 have been identified, while 350 bodies are in mortuaries in Zagreb, Osijek, and Rijeka, and 500 Serbs are still listed as missing.
