Odalovic: Kurti is a problem for the international community and Kosovo Albanian political parties
Veljko Odalovic, the President of the Serbian Government Commission for Missing Persons, stated that Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti was a problem for the international community and political parties in Kosovo, emphasizing that Europe was powerless to compel Pristina to fulfill what it had signed, RTS reports.
"Kurti is attempting to seize a part of Serbia's territory, that is his key objective. He has problems domestically with everyone, with the EU and the US, as well as with the Serbs in the north. Every one of his statements is an attempt to twist the truth and ignore what was conveyed to him on June 3. Europe has conveyed three points and the path to de-escalation, but he is distorting the situation," Odalovic points out.
He mentions that Belgrade has the right to be angry at international mediators for equating Serbia and Kosovo in the escalation that occurred in the north.
Odalovic emphasizes that there have been no incidents caused by Serbs in Kosovo and that Kurti should withdraw special units and mayors, and also call for elections.
He points out Europe's powerlessness in compelling Pristina to do what it signed.
"Europe doesn't have the instruments to force them; they've started with small measures and sanctions, and that's what worries the leaders of other Kosovo Albanian parties," Odalovic noted.
He states that Kurti is obsessed with northern Kosovo, but that it can't last long, and he will have to establish the CSM.
Regarding the Berlin Process and the "Peace Highway" project, Odalovic says that the Berlin Process was designed to support all projects that promote connectivity.
"This is not the only project; it is essential that, with Pristina creating more problems, a message is sent that one road – the peace highway – will provide a smooth and frequent passage in both directions. The port of Durres is very important, it is one of the hubs through which a significant portion of cargo can be organized," Odalovic said.
He emphasizes the importance of overcoming barriers.
"With this road, it is particularly important that twice a year, at Merdare, columns sometimes several kilometers long are formed with vehicles of the diaspora, Albanians who work and live in the West, during the summer period and holidays. It is a collapse then. This is a way to overcome that, with a modern thoroughfare that will, I hope, extend from Merdare to the entrance of Pristina, through the entire territory of Kosovo and Metohija, to reach Albania and the Adriatic," Odalovic said.
He states that these are connectivity projects, and the "Open Balkan" initiative aims to send a message that Serbia wants to be better connected in both passenger and railway traffic, to connect, and that everyone would benefit.
"There are certain political elites in the neighboring countries and in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija who don't understand these messages and don't want to be part of such projects," Odalovic added.
He also notes that these issues were discussed before Kurti came into the political scene.
