The Office for Kosovo and Metohija announced that two principals of Serbian primary schools in Kosovska Kamenica were detained today on political grounds and at the behest of Pristina. Following several hours of questioning by the police, they were placed in police custody for up to 48 hours.

The individuals concerned are Negovan Vasic, principal of the “Bratstvo” Primary School in the village of Strezovce, and Dragan Krstic, principal of the “Desanka Maksimovic” Primary School in Kosovska Kamenica.

According to the statement, members of the Kosovo Police special units, fully armed, first entered the family homes of the two principals and conducted searches, causing considerable distress and fear among their family members, particularly their children. They then entered the “Bratstvo” school and, as the Office stated, seized school documentation without any legal basis or authority.

“This operation represents retaliation by Albin Kurti’s regime for the excellent result achieved by the Serbian List in Sunday’s elections and, in particular, for the poor result of Kurti’s favored candidate, Rasic, in Kosovska Kamenica. Their sole political objective is the expulsion, arrest and intimidation of honorable Serbs whom they have neither succeeded in, nor will succeed in, forcing to work and vote for them,” the statement said.

The Office for Kosovo and Metohija stressed that “Kurti’s police have no business in Serbian schools and hold no jurisdiction whatsoever over them.”

“Through today’s show of force, the regime in Pristina is attempting to criminalize law-abiding Serbs and spread unrest and fear among all honorable Serbs in the Kosovo Pomoravlje region,” the statement added.

The Office therefore called for the detained principals to be released immediately and for pressure on the Serbian population to cease.

“There is no force or coercion by which Kurti and his servant Rasic can justify their electoral debacle in all Serbian-majority areas,” the statement concluded.
