Open letter from Elek to the international community: Raid on "Ibar Waterworks" a dangerous and politically motivated action by Kurti
The President of the Serb List, Zlatan Elek, sent an open letter to representatives of the Quint embassies, the EU, OSCE, UNMIK, and KFOR, informing them of the latest incident that occurred in North Mitrovica – the illegal and violent raid by members of the Kosovo Police and workers from the waterworks in South Mitrovica on the premises of the Public Utility Company "Ibar Waterworks."
"This act is yet another in a series of unilateral and provocative actions which, instead of stabilizing the situation, deepen tensions and cause legitimate fear among the population. What is particularly concerning is the fact that the waterworks from South Mitrovica lacks both the technical and personnel capacity to manage and maintain the complex water supply system in the north. In addition, this institution does not have the trust of the local Serbian population, which further complicates any possibility of legitimate operation," Elek wrote.
He added that these are "not merely administrative oversights, but dangerous and politically motivated actions by Albin Kurti’s regime, which systematically exert pressure on the Serbian people and threaten basic living conditions."
"Citizens are rightfully concerned about safety and the regular supply of water, especially for healthcare institutions and student dormitories. If such actions continue, there is a real risk of serious humanitarian and health consequences. We call on all relevant institutions, as well as international representatives, to respond without delay, prevent further unilateral moves, and ensure full respect for the rights and safety of the Serbian population, as well as the unhindered functioning of public utility services," the President of the Serb List concluded.
