Osmani to Hill: Anyone trying to bring Belgrade closer to the Alliance offends all members
Kosovo's President Vjosa Osmani responded to the statement of US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill, who said that Serbia was closer to NATO than Kosovo, and she emphasized that anyone trying to bring Belgrade closer to the Alliance offended all members, as reported by Koha Ditore.
After addressing the second day of the "Women's Week 2024" conference, Osmani emphasized that Serbia could not become a NATO member, given that, as she said, it had violated the values on which the Alliance was based.
"Serbia is a country that still sleeps on mass graves. Anyone who considers Serbia close to NATO offends not only member states but also the victims of Milosevic's Serbia. There is only one country farther from NATO than Serbia, and that country is Putin's Russia. A country like Serbia, which has repeatedly violated the core values on which NATO is based, cannot be close to Alliance members," Osmani stated.
She noted that Serbia had never shown interest in becoming a member of the Alliance.
"It is the only country in the Western Balkans that has repeatedly stated that it will not join NATO and is against NATO. Serbia is a country that carried out aggression against Kosovo a few months ago. It constantly tries to internally destroy Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it does the same with Montenegro. This means that this is a country like Russia, which violates the principles and values of good neighborliness but at the same time takes concrete violent actions, considering neighboring states as temporary states," Osmani said.
