The President of the National Council of the Gorani people Minority in Serbia, Amir Kajkus, said tonight that the Gorani people had lived in the area of today Gora for more than eight centuries under that name, which they still used today, and that they preserved their identity there.

Kajkus said this for Kosovo Online, on the occasion of the news of the Bulgarian agency BTA about the visit of the Vice President of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova to Kosovo, the areas where, according to her, the Bulgarian ethnic community lived, during which she had requested that it be given the status of a minority, reminding that Sofia was asking Gorani people to be officially recognized as a Bulgarian minority in Kosovo.

Kajkus pointed out that one of the reasons for the formation of the National Council of Gorani people in Serbia had been to preserve their centuries-old identity and give importance to the fact that Gorani people had existed, and according to historical records, for more than eight centuries.

There are also written documents about this that call them Gorani people, Kajkus emphasized.

"That's why I emphasize the position of the National Council that Gorani people have lived in the area of today Gora for more than eight centuries under that name, which is still used today. So, Gorani people are actually the ones who did not change that name," he said.

Aware that there were, there are today and there will be attempts to assimilate the Gorani people, Kajkus says that this is why the National Council of the Gorani in Serbia was agreed upon and successfully formed with a group of enthusiasts, for the first time in history.

That Council, above all, within its legal rights, protects the right to language, education, identity and culture, tradition and customs - all the rights of Gorani people in all fields where they may be threatened.
