Radojevic: Outgoing Municipal Assembly makes harmful decisions, KSF provokes Serbs in North Mitrovica
The newly elected mayor of North Mitrovica, Milan Radojevic, stated that the decision of the outgoing Municipal Assembly to rezone ten plots of land in the Suvi Do settlement from agricultural to construction land was made with the aim of changing the ethnic structure of the municipality. He also said that today’s presence of Kosovo Security Force (KSF) vehicles in North Mitrovica was yet another attempt to provoke unrest and pressure the Serbian population.
Radojevic emphasized that although citizens, in the elections held on Sunday, clearly expressed their opinion about the outgoing leadership of the North Mitrovica Municipal Assembly, that leadership continues to make decisions to the detriment of the majority of citizens.
“It is interesting that all those requests come from Albanians and directly affect the change of the ethnic structure, not only in the village of Suvi Do but also in the municipality of North Mitrovica itself. All decisions made in the previous period that are harmful to the majority of citizens of North Mitrovica will be reviewed by the new leadership and the new Municipal Assembly, which has absolute legitimacy and has demonstrated absolute support from the citizens in these elections. Those decisions that are contrary to the law and to the interests of the citizens will be absolutely annulled,” Radojevic said.
The newly elected mayor from the Serb List explained that the Assembly is currently functioning in a technical mandate and should not make such major decisions, as it lacks legitimacy.
“Since this decision was made in violation of the Statute of the North Mitrovica Municipal Assembly and of the law itself, we call on the Ministry of Local Government Administration to annul it. We also call on representatives of the international community to finally take a position and respond to decisions made to the detriment of the majority population in North Mitrovica, and to take measures in the interest of all citizens, particularly the majority community living in this city,” Radojevic emphasized.
He also stated that the Serb List had received numerous calls from alarmed citizens who saw KSF vehicles in North Mitrovica, specifically near the “Nis” gas station at the city entrance.
“Unfortunately, members of the KSF came to provoke the majority population of North Mitrovica, even though it is clear that, under all agreements, their entry into this area requires the explicit consent of the KFOR commander. Reports and explanations claiming that they supposedly ‘got lost’ are absolutely unacceptable to the citizens of North Mitrovica. This is a clear provocation aimed at inciting a reaction among the majority population, creating unrest, and potentially calling into question the results of the recently held elections,” Radojevic stressed.
He added that citizens, in the October 12 elections, showed what they think about the outgoing municipal structures and the government of Albin Kurti.
“Citizens clearly expressed their support for the Serb List. I thank them for not falling for these provocations and for not reacting. We call on the KFOR commander to respond and warn Pristina’s representatives that such actions can lead to an escalation of the situation in the north—primarily in North Mitrovica, but also in other municipalities,” Radojevic concluded.
