Rakovic: Western powers know what is happening in Kosovo; The Diocese's statement will not change anything

Historian Aleksandar Rakovic has assessed that the latest statement issued by the Diocese of Raska and Prizren, highlighting the increasingly difficult situation of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian people in Kosovo, should prompt a reaction from the Western part of the international community, although he does not expect that to happen.

In a statement to Kosovo Online, Rakovic said that the Diocese had issued the statement in order to send a message to Western stakeholders.

“However, they are fully aware of what is happening on the ground, and everything the Diocese of Raska and Prizren has made public is already known to them. Whether this will move anyone in the West—I do not believe so. I think the current situation will continue, because the Western actors that seek to destabilize the situation in Kosovo and Metohija are well aware of what is actually taking place there. Therefore, I do not expect any progress,” Rakovic said.

On Friday, the Diocese of Raska and Prizren warned in a statement of the increasingly difficult situation facing the Serbian people and the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo, arguing that it has significantly deteriorated as a result of the actions of Kosovo's institutions.

The Diocese specifically pointed to alleged violations of rights by the Kosovo Police and cautioned that, if the situation continues without an international response, it could ultimately lead to the complete disappearance of the Serbian population from the area.
