Former member of the US special forces and the Verification Mission in Kosovo, Marc Schifanelli, assessed for Kosovo Online that the sale of "Javelin" anti-tank missiles to Kosovo was a mistake made by the United States and that the international community should be more concerned than Serbia.

"I don't know what the motive for the purchase is. In the heart of the Balkans, we have Greece nearby, Albania, I just don't see a reason for it. It is an anti-tank missile, but it can be used for other purposes. I believe that the international community should be more concerned and alarmed than anyone else", Schifanelli said.

He was surprised by the explanation of the authorities in Pristina that they are buying missiles to preserve peace, and when asked whether Serbia should be concerned because Kosovo would have this weapon in its arsenal, Schifanelli says that the international community has much more reason to worry.

"Kosovo is facing many problems today, and I think the local authorities recognize that. Organized crime is greater than anywhere else, and that weapon can easily end up in the wrong hands. Perhaps to someone, the quantity of 150 or 250 Javelin missiles may not seem like much, but they are certainly a threat", Schifanelli concluded.
