Serb detained due to someone else's flag, while Albanians freely provoke worshippers
While the Kosovo Police annually arrests Serbs at Gazimestan during the Vidovdan commemoration for alleged hate speech crimes, Albanians face no such consequences.
Specifically, as Serbs pay tribute to Kosovo heroes, Kosovar Albanians freely pass by police, KFOR, and EULEX on motorcycles wearing shirts with "Albania" in large letters.
After Nikola Micalovic from Babin Most was detained and released yesterday at Gazimestan for displaying a Serbian flag with "No Surrender," which was later found not to belong to him, Albanians openly and without consequences provocatively approached gathered worshippers.
A video captured yesterday at Gazimestan during the Vidovdan celebrations was filmed by Aleksandar Arsenijevic, an opposition politician from North Mitrovica.
At the beginning of the video, which is circulating on social media, a man on a motorcycle wearing a "Albania" shirt "circled" Gazimestan, conversed with police, shouted "Long live Kosovo" and "Long live Albania," and then departed.
Subsequently, as Arsenijevic recounted and as seen in the footage, an Albanian journalist approached the Serbian politician, stating he was heading for Serbia and struck him.
When he requested the Kosovar police officer to respond to the attack, the officer turned away and avoided contact.
As a reminder, Serb N.M., who was detained yesterday at Gazimestan, was released after a few hours.
Kosovo police detained N.M. from Babin Most after the Vidovdan commemoration at Gazimestan. His lawyer Bogdan Lazic confirmed he was released after an informational interview at the police station.
Lazic told Kosovo Online that the young man was released after an informative conversation at the police station.
Serb N.M. was detained following the Vidovdan commemoration at Gazimestan because he was found with a flag bearing the inscription "No Surrender," which the young man said was not his.
Upon returning from the commemoration, he was separated and taken to a booth near the entrance gate to Gazimestan.
Afterwards, Kosovo police took him in the direction of Pristina.
Kosovo police stated that the Vidovdan celebration at Gazimestan proceeded without incidents today, and participants dispersed in the afternoon.
"Referring to information from police units deployed in the field, no incidents affecting the course of events were recorded, except for escorting the person to the police station for discussion according to legal procedures. Following the activities in the afternoon, all participants dispersed peacefully," the police statement said.
