Serb List: Abduction of Belacevac mine workers remains unpunished, unacknowledged, and unresolved
The abduction of Serbian miners from the Belacevac mine is a crime that has remained without justice, truth, or punishment for 27 years, the Serb List emphasized, calling for the issue to be reopened at all levels—both domestic and international.
“On the 27th anniversary of the abduction of Serbian miners from the Belacevac mine, the Serb List reminds the public and the international community of one of the gravest and most painful crimes committed against the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija. Twenty-seven years later, the families of the abducted still live in uncertainty, suffering, and without answers to the most basic and humane question: Where are their loved ones?” the statement reads.
The Serb List underlined that this crime has remained without justice, truth, or consequences.
“No one has been found. No one has been held accountable—despite the presence of numerous international missions, from UNMIK and EULEX to other organizations that operated in Kosovo for years, with both the mandate and the resources to investigate such crimes. Their failure is not only a defeat for the families but also for the very notion of international justice. On behalf of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, the Serb List demands that this issue be urgently reopened at all levels—national and international—and that a comprehensive investigation be launched, with the same resolve and persistence expected in any civilized society, to bring at least a glimmer of comfort to families who have been waiting for justice for over two decades,” the statement adds.
“Such a crime does not expire. The pain of the families does not fade. The responsibility of those entrusted with the pursuit of truth and justice must not be forgotten. The Serb List will continue to insist on uncovering the truth about the fate of the abducted miners, as well as on the accountability of all those who took part in this crime—or who contributed to its concealment through silence and inaction,” the Serb List concluded.
