Serb List appeals election results to the ECAP: Guaranteed seats mechanism abused
The Serb List today officially filed an appeal with the Electoral Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) challenging the published results of the snap parliamentary elections, citing serious irregularities that it says directly affected the allocation of seats reserved for the Serbian community, the party announced.
According to the statement, it is undisputed that the Citizens' Initiative For Freedom, Justice and Survival received a significant number of votes from Albanian voters, which, the party argues, seriously undermined the will of the Serbian people and abused the guaranteed seats mechanism intended to protect the Serbian community.
"The political entity led by Pristina regime favorite Nenad Rasic did not compete for the seats contested by the other parties, but for the reserved seats intended for the Serbian community. It is therefore absolutely unacceptable for such a seat to be won with votes from non-Serb communities, including in municipalities where there are virtually no Serbs. We believe that in this way one seat was effectively taken away from the Serbian people and awarded thanks to votes that do not reflect the political will of the Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija. Such a practice sets a dangerous precedent and represents a direct attack on the rights of the Serbian people and the mechanisms designed to ensure their institutional protection," the statement said.
The Serb List called on the competent institutions to urgently consider its appeal, establish all the relevant facts, and issue a decision in accordance with the law, justice, and the genuine will of the Serbian people.
"As we have promised, the Serb List will continue to use all democratic and legal means to defend the electoral will of the Serbian people and their guaranteed rights," the statement concluded.
