Vucic: In talks with Kallas, I insisted on implementation of Brussels Agreement, particularly CSM

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met today in New York with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and said that during their talks he had insisted on the implementation of the provisions of the Brussels Agreement, particularly the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities.

“We had an open and frank discussion, and it was not an easy one. We discussed all issues, from General Mladic—and I responded to that—to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and the implementation of the provisions of the Brussels Agreement, on which I insisted, particularly the Community of Serb Municipalities,” Vucic told RTS.

The upcoming elections in Serbia were also discussed.

Asked what Kallas had told him regarding Kosovo and the Brussels Agreement, Vucic declined to provide details, saying it would not be fair to disclose what they had discussed privately.

“We had an open, frank and, I believe, substantive discussion. Things were clear to me, but I wanted to hear everything directly from them, and they also heard everything from me,” the Serbian President said.

Earlier, Vucic wrote on Instagram that he had also discussed with Kallas Serbia’s steps toward EU membership, the implementation of reforms and the preservation of national interests.

“We particularly exchanged views on regional stability, as well as the position and security of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija. Serbia remains committed to dialogue with its European partners and to working toward concrete results that contribute to a better life for our citizens,” Vucic wrote.

On Guterres and Trump addresses: The same policies will continue

Commenting on the address by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who said geopolitical divisions were deepening, Vucic said that this was clearly happening and that the trend was continuing.

Speaking about US President Donald Trump’s address, he said that Trump’s remarks made it clear that the same policy would continue.

“The policy of seeking US dominance, primarily in relation to China,” Vucic said, noting that Trump had specifically emphasized the significant gap between the United States and China in artificial intelligence.

That, he added, was also one of the most important questions—whether humans would control artificial intelligence or artificial intelligence would control humans.

Regarding conflicts around the world, Vucic stressed that there was no magic wand.

“We heard diametrically opposed messages from Trump regarding Iran... I do not know whether we heard or learned much that was new, but an increasing number of leaders are gathering here to conduct bilateral business—more meetings for the same cost,” Vucic observed.

He added that a different approach by European leaders was evident, describing it as positive and prudent.

“They have stopped disregarding the UN and have begun organizing forums and meetings—Costa, von der Leyen, Macron, all of them. They have correctly understood that they must compete for Asia and Africa because, by doing so, they are also competing for Europe,” the Serbian President said.

Vucic acknowledged that he feared the divisions would grow even wider.

“But our task is to preserve peace and stability and to talk to everyone,” Vucic concluded.
