Serb List responds to Terras: Kosovo Assembly has not elected its leadership

The Serb List pointed out to European Parliament Rapporteur for Kosovo Riho Terras that the Kosovo Assembly had not elected its leadership, contrary to what he had previously stated in a post on X.

“Dear Mr Terras, it is absolutely incorrect to claim that the Kosovo Assembly has elected its leadership. The work of the Assembly was blocked by the ruling party, which halted the election of the five Deputy Speakers. Therefore, the Assembly’s leadership remains incomplete,” the Serb List said in a comment on Terras’s post.

Earlier today, following a meeting with UNMIK chief Peter Due, Terras stated that “after a prolonged political deadlock, the Kosovo Assembly has elected its leadership, and the next challenge is the election of the president.”

The Kosovo Assembly yesterday elected Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker, but did not elect the Deputy Speakers. Haxhiu adjourned the session after taking issue with a statement by Serb List parliamentary group leader Igor Simic that “on behalf of the Serbian people, he was nominating Slavko Simic for Deputy Speaker.”

The constitutive session of the parliament will resume tomorrow at 11 a.m., with a single item on the agenda—the election of the Deputy Speakers.
