Shahini: Davos served for the US to show its strength, a new world order is being created
President of the Alliance for Kosovo Businesses Agim Shahini told Kosovo Online that this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos had a more pronounced political character and served to demonstrate the strength of the United States, with a focus on a new order of the global economy and politics.
“Most likely, during this year we will witness several events we are not accustomed to, as well as announcements of a new world order. We do not know what it will look like, nor what the strategic plan of the United States, as the world’s greatest power, will be,” Shahini said.
He noted that there are serious disagreements and conflicting interests among various actors at the global level, but that the potential establishment of a new world order could significantly change Europe.
“We do not know how this will unfold, but if it truly happens, a new order could be established at the global level and bring major changes to Europe. We have already seen the situation in Venezuela, and the war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for more than three years and still has no concrete results, although its end is discussed on a daily basis. There is also the Middle East, where major changes are also underway. A Peace Committee for Palestine and Gaza is being formed. Because of all this, it is almost certain that a new order will be discussed this year, and it remains to be seen what it will look like,” Shahini said.
Asked whether the topics discussed in Davos, such as the issue of Greenland, could have an impact on Kosovo despite its geographic distance, Shahini replied in the affirmative, noting that information can already be heard that the United States has specific demands for the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue to finally be brought to an end.
“Today, nothing in the world is far away. Everything is connected. Although Greenland may seem distant, it is part of Europe, and Kosovo is also in Europe. For that reason, I believe that this year the Government of Kosovo will have to seriously begin and finally conclude the dialogue with Serbia in order to reach a concrete result. Voices are increasingly being heard that the United States has clear demands for the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia to finally be concluded,” Shahini concluded.
