Spahiu: It is in Kosovo's interest to fulfill its obligations toward Serbs

Analyst Nexhmedin Spahiu stated that it is in Kosovo's interest to fulfill its obligations toward the Serbian community and that Pristina should implement the agreement reached in Brussels instead of setting additional conditions for its implementation. Spahiu assessed that the lack of functional institutions is not the reason why Pristina currently does not have a strategic dialogue with Washington.

"It is in Kosovo's national interest to implement the agreement reached between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and President Aleksandar Vucic in Brussels. This remains the primary interest for Kosovo, but also for Serbia, the region, and all parties seeking peace and stability in the Balkans," Spahiu told Kosovo Online.

He assessed that setting additional conditions for the continuation of the agreement's implementation does not benefit Kosovo, whose goal, according to him, should be peace.

"The fact that Pristina is setting certain conditions in order to move forward with the implementation of that agreement is not in Kosovo's interest. The condition set by Albin Kurti that Milan Radoicic must be handed over before the continuation of the agreement's implementation is not the most urgent matter. For Kosovo, it is more important to achieve peace and an agreement with Belgrade than to deal with that issue," Spahiu stated.

Speaking about the strategic dialogue between Kosovo and the United States, Spahiu said that the lack of functional institutions is not the reason why Pristina currently does not have dialogue with Washington.

"That is not the reason at all. Prime Minister Kurti believes that his policy is correct, but that does not mean it serves Kosovo's national interests," Spahiu stated.

He reiterated that fulfilling obligations toward the Serbian community is in Kosovo's interest.

"There is no doubt about that. Why Prime Minister Kurti does not do this is something that should be asked of him," Spahiu concluded.
