Spahiu: Kurti's approach in North Macedonia was a big mistake; it must not happen again

Political science Professor Nexhmedin Spahiu told Kosovo Online that the approach of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti in North Macedonia had been a big mistake that should not be repeated.

"That's his stupidity. The iconography that was there to welcome Kurti is not befitting a Prime Minister of an independent sovereign state. It is the same, for example, as if it happened that Djukanovic was welcomed in Croatia, or Kosovo, with the flags of some other country, not Montenegrin, for example, with Serbian flags, or that Pendarovski was greeted not with Macedonian, but, say, with Bulgarian flags, which would be completely inappropriate," Spahiu said.

According to Spahiu, Kurti's approaches like this one in North Macedonia are ruining relations with neighboring countries; however, he believes that the Macedonian leaders will tolerate it this time.

"I don't know what Kurti's motive was, but I think it's a very wrong policy that damages relations with neighboring countries, with friendly countries, such as North Macedonia. I don't expect any tightening of relations, not because he didn't do anything wrong there, but because Macedonian leaders have common sense and I think they will tolerate it this time, provided that something like that doesn't happen again in the future," Spahiu said.
