University professor Nexhmedin Spahiu stated that Serbs are a more civilized people than Albanians, who are greater barbarians because, as he explained, Serbs respect order and law, while Albanians are disobedient, Koha reports.

"Serbs are more civilized than us; we are more primitive as a people. They respect the law and order. The moment they saw that there was no Serbian police, but Kosovo police, they obeyed that order. We neither know how to use power when we have it, nor do we obey authority. Over the past year, have there been more murders committed in other cities of Kosovo or in the north of Kosovo?" said Spahiu.

He noted that civilization is demonstrated by respect for the law.

"We have our own state and we do not respect it enough. We see that when we take power, as now in the north, our country is respected more than we are. This shows civilization. Let whoever wants to understand it however they wish. If they were not braver and wiser than us, they would not have held us under their rule for 100 years. If we were better, wiser, and more patriotic, we would have created a state 200 years ago. We are becoming wiser and braver, now we have our own state. We needed a bit of luck, but we do not know how to appreciate the luck we had," he said.

Speaking about the potential opening of the bridge on the Ibar, which divides South and North Mitrovica, Spahiu says it should be opened if only for symbolism.

According to him, this would merely confirm the expansion of the sovereignty of Kosovo's institutions in the north.

He also believes that opening it to car traffic would benefit Serbs in the north the most.

"Albanians in the south do not know how to use the bridge for car traffic, since it is a marketplace and there is nowhere for cars to go. Meanwhile, Serbs can come to work because they have direct access to a four-lane road," said Spahiu.

Ron Gjinovci responded to Spahiu, who said that Serbs are more civilized, and Albanians barbaric.

"We chose as prime minister someone who Nobel laureate for literature Orhan Pamuk invites to dinner. They have as president and prime minister people who participated in Milosevic's crimes. This shows who is more civilized and who is more barbaric," he pointed out.
